Key Guidelines for Success in Youth Sports

With holidays gone, everyone is looking forward to the beginning of spring sports.  Hopefully, if you’ve followed the advice of top surgeons, athletic trainers, and seasoned coaches at high levels, your youth athletes took a break for a bit, played some different sports, or participated in a fitness movement program such as ours at Core Impact.  Now that spring seasons are rapidly approaching, Core Impact’s schedule is filling quickly with teams and players wanting to get into ideal shape before gracing the fields with their abilities.

As these young athletes rebuild their bodies and reactivate their love of their games, remember to follow the healthy youth athlete guidelines as pressure builds for your child to play to the next level.  Please remember, this applies to all sports, not just baseball as some like to think!  Soccer, lacrosse, tennis, whatever sport you can think of is applicable to the guidelines below :

  1. Play for only 1 team at a time (do not play school + travel + local leagues simultaneously) click for STOP Sports Injuries recommendation
  2. Perform proper warm-ups before each practice and game (yes, kids need to stretch) click for research on dynamic warm-ups
  3. Play/practice no more hours in a week than years the child is old (10 year old child, no more than 10 hours play/practice) click for American Academy of Pediatrics post
  4. Review school, local, and travel league policies and procedures regarding safety (AED access, CPR, EAPs, do they have an athletic trainer)  click for reasons athletic trainers are vital in youth sports
  5. When in doubt, FIND OUT!  If you have a question in your mind, then it’s worth finding the answer!  click to contact Core Impact, fill out the contact form, and we’ll find your answer

Again, these guidelines apply to all sports.  Keep these guidelines close by to maintain parent, coach, and athlete accountability.  Following basic practice and play safety measures will help ensure a successful season, and keep your athletes in the game!  #mycoreimpact
